With so many titles and exclusives, I always discover another amazing PS4 game to play.

When I upgraded my network connection, I realized I have dual-band Wi-Fi, so I was curious if my PS4 could use the 5GHz connection for faster speeds and better connectivity.

I was able to use 5GHz on my PS4 without any issues, however this may not be the case for everyone.

PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro both support 5GHz. A first-generation PS4 only supports 2.4GHz connections.

Does 5GHz Wi-Fi work with a PS4

With a PS4 Slim or Pro, you can effortlessly connect to internet using a 5GHz connection.

Simply navigate to the setup screen for network connections and hit your controller’s “Options” button.

Select 5GHz from this panel, and they should now show up on SSID selection page.

The Benefits of 5GHz Wi-Fi

5GHz connections are faster and less affected by interference, so you can use them if your router isn’t providing full internet speed.

Using these connections will improve your connection and transfer speeds.

They can’t penetrate objects or rooms and have a shorter range than the 2.4GHz.

To reduce 5GHz network interference, keep your router in the same room as other 5GHz devices.

Do you prefer using a PS4 Slim or a PS4 Pro on Wi-Fi 5GHz?

PS4 slim and PS4 Pro have the same Wi-Fi module, so their networking speeds are the same.

In a perfect environment, Wi-Fi can reach 450 Mbps and Ethernet 1000 Mbps.

This isn’t true, as other technologies, items, and obstacles prevent us from reaching these speeds.

PS4’s Wi-Fi module offers 450Mbps Wi-Fi and 1000Mbit Ethernet.

You can use your Wi-Fi connection for gaming and streaming as long as there isn’t much interference and the distance between your PS4 and router is adequate.

Using an Ethernet cable ensures a more reliable connection and prevents you from being kicked out of multiplayer games when interference occurs.

On a PlayStation 4, how to increase internet speed

Setting your PS4’s DNS manually can boost  internet speed.

“Settings” > “Network”

Choose “Internet Connection”

Choose “Lan cable” or “Wi-Fi.”

Select “Custom” to enter DNS manually.

Select a network.
