However, Qualcomm has been recently facing stiff competition from companies like MediaTek and likes. These companies churn out SoCs with more cores in the same budget as Qualcomm, which are still out-performed by a dual-core Snapdragon processor.

Now, in a bid to increase awareness that more cores is not better, Qualcomm has released a video which explains why each individual core matter, and not their number. Qualcomm has lost a significant amount of market share in the low-end to mid-range market to companies like MediaTek, because they enable OEMs to offer a device with a “quad-core” processor in a very low budget. With this new marketing campaign, the company hopes to increase awareness among the general public and bust the myth. Thankfully, the 1 minute 16 seconds video  is not just a marketing gimmick from Qualcomm, and does indeed makes sense. Just like the more megapixels does not translate into better camera quality or images, more cores does not translate into better performance.
